Hadith of the Week - Intercession By The Quran

I heard the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) saying, “Read the Quran, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.” [Sahih Muslim]

This hadith tells us one of the many benefits of reciting the Quran and acting upon it. The Day of Judgement will be extremely hot for sinners and 50,000 years long. The fear that will grip people will be so severe that it will produce in them a drunk like condition. People will be desperate for an intercessor, to save them from the Fire of Hell.

On that Day, none will intercede except whom Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) grants permission to, and Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will allow the Quran to do so. The Quran will be endowed with the power of speech and it will request Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) to forgive the sins of its reciters who acted upon its teachings. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will accept the request of the Quran, as signified in other ahadith.

Another hadith states: “The Quran and the people who applied it, will be brought on the Day of Resurrection preceded with Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Al-e-Imran arguing on behalf of those who applied them.” [Sahih Muslim] Let’s increase our chances of being saved from the Fire of Hell, by reciting the Quran and applying its teachings to our lives.

Hadith of the Week - Last Day Close When Unfit Rule

Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) reported: “Once the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) was speaking to us when a bedouin came and asked him, ‘When will the Last Day be?’ When the Messenger of Allah concluded his speech he asked, ‘Where is the one who inquired about the Last Day?’ The man replied: ‘Here I am.’ The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘When the practice of honouring a trust is lost, expect the Last Day.’ The bedouin asked: ‘How could it be lost?’ The Prophet replied, ‘When the government is entrusted to undeserving people, then wait for the Last Day.’” [Sahih Bukhari]

Thus we are told that a sign of the nearness of the Day of Judgement is that unworthy people will become leaders. The affairs of the world will be in the hands of unfit and undeserving people. Sinners and wicked people will become rulers. Pulpits will be occupied by the greedy and ignorant, people who are devoid of piety and abstinence.

Since this is the current state of affairs, we should be reminded of the end of times and sincerely do our best to correct ourselves. Actually, regardless of when the Day of Judgement comes, a person’s own judgement will begin with his/her death and this could happen any second for anybody. Death does not come with a warning.

Hadith of the Week - Charity Not To Rich Or Healthy

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "It is not permissible to give charity to a rich man (or one who is independent of means) or to one who is strong and healthy." [Sunan An-Nasai - Sahih]

'Strong' means the one who is capable of earning his livelihood. And ‘healthy’ means the one whose hands and feet are wholesome and not handicapped, and he is not incapacitated by some illness. If such a person is poor despite his labour or is unable to find employment, then he will be entitled to receive Zakah or Sadaqah.
